While the fish and chips are delightful, some find the portion sizes a bit smaller than expected for a hearty meal. A few patrons hope for thicker chips, as they prefer more texture to balance the lightness of the fish. The popularity of the pies can lead to some disappointment if you arrive late, as they tend to sell out quickly, so timing your visit can be crucial.
Having viewed a TikTok video about the Town Street Fryer, it looked great and I had to check it out. Situated on the high street in Marple Bridge, which is a beautiful district, there’s a small car park to the side of the shop, and a large free car park just down the road a little, on the corner and on the same side as the shop. Although I wasn't going to miss out on the fish and chips, it was the pies I had my sights on, and what incredible pies they were. I chose four pies made in-house: mature cheddar cheese and onion, steak and ale (Boddingtons), chicken leek and tarragon, and steak and cheddar cheese. Each pie was absolutely delicious, with plenty of high-quality filling and perfect pastry. The haddock and chips were nice, with the batter on the fish being gluten-free. The fish was fresh, white, and subtle in flavour. The curry sauce was slightly spicy, smooth, and delicious. The mushy peas were spot on, made in-house, and just the right colour and thickness. The chips were okay, though a little thicker would have been nice, as the portion of fish and chips wasn’t particularly large. However, each and every item of food was top quality and super tasty. 🟠 Cooking in: Oil 🟠 Payment: Cash or Card 🟠 Hygiene Rating: 5 🟠 Fish Reviewed: Haddock 🎥 See the full video review on The Chippy Tour YouTube channel
What a great chippy and great owner too! We had a lovely chat while we placed our order and found out about the other local businesses in the area. The food was piping hot, great value for money and absolutely delicious, possibly the best pie Ive ever had! I will definitely be returning!

Richard is a sound guy and made me feel welcomed and whilst making my order we had a great chat about ours jobs and i am some body with 20years of customer service experience and i can confirm Richards customer service is a solid 10 out of 10. Had amazing pie and chips here! We had steak and ale and chicken and leek pies and both were incredible. We had a great chat with Richard talking about pastry and future pie flavours and he recommended a cook book he uses for inspiration. We will be back again soon!! Definitely get there early as the pies sell out fast!
Lovely. Just perfect. The vinegar on top with the right amount of salt. The yummiest curry sauce I've ever had. The hospitality. The banter. Just incredible. I wanted to go back the next day again. Highly recommend. The awards and placards are all real.
The BEST chippy ever. Honestly Richard is such a lovely guy and very friendly. The best chippy I’ve been to in a while! Food service is amazing and I would recommend this chippy to everyone. Everyone loves this chippy and marple bridge and it certainly keeps us all going on our work lunch breaks! Amazing chips that are made fresh everyday and the best curry sauce. Richard is a very lovely owner and does an extremely good job with his chippy! It’s a pleasure to have this chippy in marple bridge.
Absolutely brilliant fish and chips and the most unexpectedly good pies that the owner told me he makes himself. Staff are lovely too. Definitely worth the longer round trip to go there rather than my usual place. The care and attention put into the food and the use of quality ingredients is very evident. The Boss seems like a lovely fellow too!
